Written by Paul Fleischman
Illustrated by Bagram Ibatoulline

Summary

In this story it looks like they were trying to show a picture of a library in the grandfathers house. The main character in the story is the grandfather as a boy because he tells his granddaughter about his past and by showing her his diary which is a bunch of match boxes with items from his past in them. When he was a boy he was very poor and he lived Italy and when ever he was hungry he told his mom to give him an olive pit to suck on because their was a lot of olive trees their. They went on a boat but they couldn't go on the top because they were poor unlike the rich people on top. Since they had almost no money their father had to leave for work to get money so they didn't get to see him often. When her grandfather was eight years old they finally had enough money to go to school but he didn't want to go so he had an argument  with his mom about whether or not he should go but his mom won and he ended up going to school it was hard for him but he did it and every night he told his sisters what he had learned.

Our opinion
We all liked the book three out of three and this is our description  why:              Sahil's opinion
I like the part when the grandfather showed her the matchbox diary and the girl said to the grandfather "you smoke cigars!"I wonder why the men told the passengers that people at their destination  put button hooks in their eyes (a button hook is a tool used for closing up shoes when they didn't have laces)
Amanda's opinion
I like the book because it tells stories  and gives us information  from the grandfathers past.

Vickram’s  opinion
I liked the part when they went to a baseball game in New York.
The Bear's song written and illustrated By Benjamin Chaud. Harveer,Jashan,Komalpreet and Harshan.

Summary

The setting was in a house, outside and in a grocery store.
The story's main character were a bunch of Dinosaurs. The main event is that the dinosaurs do things for the humans. The problem in the story is that the Dinosaurs were sometimes getting mixed up, by the chores that they had to do.The story ending was when the humans were really liking the dinosaurs and they wondered if they had a kangaroo.

Opinion

1 person in my group thought that the dinosaurs were going to eat the people because  in the cover it looked like  the dinosaur was about to eat a person. The second person thought that the dinosaurs were going to be really funny and cool. The third person thought that the dinosaurs had a nest and that they were taking people to there nest to tickle them.My whole group liked this book because it was funny and entertaining mostly we liked it because of the illustrations. We also had wonders like will they make a book about a kangaroo because in the end they say what can you do with a kangaroo.Another wonder that was in our group was why would some want an excuse that there dinosaur ate there homework who would take good care of  a dinosaur

How Droofus The Dragon Lost His Head

How Droofus The Dragon Lost His Head written and illustrated by Bill Peet

This story takes place long long ago, probably in medieval times, in a small kingdom or village. The main character is Droofus the Dragon. Other important characters are the little boy, his father (the farmer), and the King.
In the beginning, Droofus is a four year old dragon who gets separated from the rest of the dragons while they are flying from one place to another. He becomes a vegetarian dragon and lives in the forest alone.
One day, Droofus gets bored and decides to try flying again. While he is out flying, the king sees him and decides he needs to have that dragon's head on the wall of his great hall. He offers a hundred golden quadrooples to anyone who brings him the dragon's head. Every brave knight goes searching for Droofus but after several months they gave up in despair.
One day, a little boy goes up the mountainside looking for his lost lamb, Flossy. He searches in a cave and finds her but also sees Droofus asleep in the cave. He tells his dad about the dragon and his dad tells him that if he tells the King, he might get part of the reward. The boy refuses because he believes the dragon is a good dragon.
Droofus goes flying but gets caught in a storm, his wings are shredded  and he crashes down into a farmer’s field. It happens to be the farm of the little boy’s family. The boy nurses him back to health and Droofus becomes a very big help on the farm. Unfortunately, one day Droofus is spotted by a neighbour and goes to tell the king. The king comes to get the dragon… and you’ll just have to read the story to find out what happens.
Duh…duh..duh…

What we thought of the story:
Overall, we really enjoyed this story. 1/30 didn't like the story, 3/30 sort of liked the story, 26/30 really liked the story.
Some of the things we liked were:
-how Bill Peet described and illustrated Droofus the dragon
-the way Droofus became a harmless vegetarian (unlike the rest of the dragons that caused trouble and were definitely NOT vegetarians)
-how they solved the problem at the end.
-the little boy and how he wasn't afraid of Droofus but instead wanted to save his life
-how Droofus makes such a difference in the lives of the family
-how Bill Peet creates characters that are so likeable

We would recommend that you read this story and many others by Bill Peet that we love, such as, Hugh Harold, Big Bad Bruce, and The Whingdingdilly.

Mousterpiece written and illustrated by Jane Breskin Zalben

Summary

The setting of this story is a museum.  The main character of the story is Janson, a mouse who lives in an art museum.  The story is about a mouse who loved to go out and explore the museum at night, once it closed.  One night she decided to draw, paint, and sculpt the famous art she found on the wall.  The problem in the story was that Janson discovered that the museum had closed for renovations and all the paintings were gone.   She couldn't believe that the art was gone and felt upset her heart felt shattered into pieces. Janson  came up with a way to solve the problem by deciding to paint her own works of art.  People from all over the world started to notice the art and comment on her work.

Opinion- Did we like it?

The 22/26 students in our class liked the book.  The class enjoyed how Janson took matters into her own hands and created art for the museum.  The book taught us the lesson of feeling confident in creating our own art and not being afraid of what others think or say.  Janson was  very unique. The class enjoyed the illustrations because they painted a picture of the kind of art the mouse was working on.  There is not a lot of text on each page but the illustration matched what the author wrote about.
The book left our class was wondering about what happens to all of Janson's art when the famous works of art are ready to be put back in the museum.  We also wanted to know if Janson continued to make art after the story ended.
