The book that won this Smackdown was Bluebird by Bob Staake.  It won the Smackdown with the vote of 17/25. Bluebird is a wordless picture book that is narrative. The thing we liked about the book is the illustrations and the expression on the kid's face. Another reason we voted for it, is the humor in the story. The lesson in the book is to not bully others or nature. We wonder if the bird is going to come back. Also is what happened to the bluebird. The part that we all liked is when the boy started to get happier because of meeting a friend, the bird.

The book that won  the Smackdown was Bluebird by Bob Staake.  It won the Smackdown with a vote of 17/25.Bluebirds a wordless narrative picture book.  We really liked this book because it was really neat when they divided the book into sections.  It was also fascinating when the birds picked up the boy and it looked like he was flying.  There was one more thing we really liked when the bird came alive again.  The lesson in the book is it is good to be a nice and caring friend.  We wonder where the bird went.

The book that won the Smackdown was  Bluebird by Bob Staake. It won the Smackdown with a vote of 17/25. Bluebird is a wordless picture book/comic with no words. It looks like a comic because it has different slots for a different picture. The book is about a lonely boy with no friends but then one day a bluebird follows him and he notices the bird he stops and the bird talks to him he giggles and smiles for the first time then he goes into a grocery store and the bird waits and waits until the boy comes out, with a cookie he shares it with the bird and goes to central park he buys a boat and sails it but then he picks it up and walks and walks and he stops some mean kids from school spot him and his boat they grab at it the bird try's to defend the boy one mean kid picks up a stick and hits the bird and the mean kids run away. The boy picks up the bird a tear rolls down his eye but then a bunch of birds come they pick up the boy and bring him higher and higher and higher until they stop and talk to the bird and the bird gets up and flys away and the boy waves goodbye.

Journey vs This is not my hat

The book that won the Smackdown was Journey. It won with 19/25 votes. There were many reasons why our class chose this book. In the story there is a purple bird which belongs to a boy with a purple crayon and the main character was a girl with a red crayon. We liked the book because it was a wordless picture book. The lesson in the book was use your imagination and don't listen to what other people say. The illustrations were great even though the book was a wordless picture book. The pictures looked very realistic. One part of the book that we found interesting was that there was a boy with a purple crayon and there was the girl with the red crayon. We wonder what the girl did with the red crayon in the end.We still wonder about where the boy got the purple crayon.We wonder what had happen to the purple bird in the end.

All the words didn’t mean anything,they were words that babies would say.The book won because it made Mrs. Holden call herself a robot monkey!

We thought it would not be a funny book but it came out being a really funny book.

This book is wordless which means it has no words. I liked when the bird followed the boy. We liked how the face expressions meant if he is happy,sad or normal. One reason we liked this book was that only the Bluebird was in color. The second reason we liked the book was the illustrations,they looked like drawings that were colored. The third reason we liked was that the bullies realized that they had hurt nature and they must have felt very guilty. I wondered what happened to the bird when it died. I wonder why the other birds carried the boy into the sky.

The colours were all muted  that showed the boy  how lonely he was. The lesson of this book was about friendship and teaching others how to be kind. Our tribe wondered if the bird went around the world and find another person who will care for that bird. Also the tribe wondered about if the bird was gone for good and another bird will take place.

The book was wordless but its still a good book, the illustrations were like they were to talking to you, you wouldn't get confused.The illustration  in the beginning are dull and at the end it was colourful. When the girl went through the door the paintings were more bright. The paintings were very detailed they would take both pages. The lesson in the book was that if no one wants to play with you you can have a adventure with your imagination. I wonder if the boy and the girl go on a adventure together? I wonder if there were more chalk colours?

On another page there was a lot of silly words that you have to say. Our favourite part was when it made as say ‘boop beep’.We recomed you read this book because it is really funny. It makes you say random words don't say I did not warn you.

Summary:

It takes place around the world. The main characters are from different countries.

It starts off with Keita and her father catching fish at 6:00 in the morning in Dakar, Senegal. Each page shows a different country where it is a different time but actually the same moment. The book teaches about what kind of landscapes, weather and sometimes the traditions in the different countries. It ended by showing the same picture from the beginning but different words.

Opinion:

4/4 kind of liked it.

But what we didn’t like were the confusing words.(hard words to pronounce)

But we like the illustrations and the details in the pictures.

We all liked the light colours mixed with dark because it makes a cool mix of colours.

Wonders:

We wonder if there is going to be a new version of the book.

We wonder if they are going add new countries if they make a new version of the book.

Our tribe liked this book  because it told us the book without words.The good things about this book is it give us ideas to think in our head and re write the book in our brain  and put into our own story.The illustrations had lots of ideas  popped  into the book.

Also the pictures look realistic in the settings and added more details. The lesson of the story is use your imagination and make your brain run wild. Our tribe wander if there is more hidden crayons around the city and kids find them and start a new adventure. I think that kids that get boarded out, and nothing to do they go alone and something moves there will be a crayon for them.

One day Maple saw a baby willow tree, Maple is a big sister! Her little sister’s name was Willow. Maple played with Willow every day!

Our Opinions:

4/4 liked this book because the every child  had her own tree, and tree name. Our group wonders if there will be another baby? We wonder if Maple will still love her tree as she gets older?

3/4 people liked this book because it is funny and weird. We like this book because they mixed up the words and it had flap almost on all of the pages. 1 person did not like this book because it flaps and he could not say the words. And he did not like the mix up words.

At first they were not friends. When the flamingo does a pose, the girl tried to do it but she could not. By the end of the book the girl got better at the poses and she also made a new friend.This book is about a little girl who swim dances with a flamingo.

Opinion

we thought it was an okay book because there were only pictures, so it was kinda hard to read, but we did make up words to go along with the pictures.

The book that won the smack down is If You Happen To Have a Dinosaur.  It won by a vote 13/21.There are many  reasons the Dinosaur book won.  The book is very funny and has lots of humour the page when the dinosaur is a umbrella is really funny.  We really liked when the text is written along the dinosaur.  The illustrations make the book really interesting.  Also some of the illustrations are really funny.  The lesson from the story is that everyone should work together as a family.

The book that won the smack down was If you happen to have dinosaur.  It won by a vote of 13/21 people.  There are many reasons the Dinosaur book won because it had a tonne of humour.  An example : were the dinosaur can be used as a alarm its were a robber comes into the house to rob stuff but the dinosaur scares the robber away with a grrrrr!  The book was about  dinosaurs doing house hold chores with happiness.The funniest part we thought was when the dinosaur was babysitting the baby and the diaper fell off. 

When they used the dinosaurs as kites it worked but one was to heavy and fat to be a kite!The dinosaurs love the humans and humans love them to but sometimes the dinosaurs get mixed up doing there house hold chores.They even use the dinosaurs as potato mashers and the mashed potato's spread over the little baby.The last thing is you can use the dinosaurs as an excuses for your homework and tell the teacher your dino ate your homework.The text of the book was sometimes under the dinos tail and was in random places on the page like the bottom Or even between the pictures.Sometimes when there is important text it is in large letters.The lesson in the book was working together in a  family and loving the dinosaurs and they will love you.

Mehtaab likes the part where it says if you take care of them you will probably have them for a long time. Carter likes the illustrations in the book. Lovleen likes the text in the book of Dinosaurs. we all like the part where the blue Dinosaur is in the rain and is helping everybody in the rain and the little boy is helping the dinosaur not getting wet. Lots of the pictures were very funny. Lots of the pictures show the dinosaurs helping. Like if you need a burglar alarm your dinosaur is just the right thing. Your friends will line up to try your new diving board. 

you can use your dinosaur as a shredder for your homework and blame your dinosaur that he was hungry and the dinosaur ate my homework.

There are many reasons the dinosaur book won. The book was really funny because dinosaurs where mowing the lawn,trimming the trees,and washing the windows. Do not bring your dinosaur to the grocery  store because they will eat all the food in the cart. Do not let your dinosaur do your homework because he will eat it is a perfect excuse for not bringing your homework. If you treat your dinosaur well they will stay with you for a long time. The pictures are bright.The illustrations looked like drawings.the drawings where very detailed . The writing on each page was not too less not too long. The text was some times out lining the dinosaurs. It is a  book that can be read  by grade ones too. The lesson in the story is working together as a family.

The book that won the smackdown is If You Happen to Have a Dinosaur.  The book won because  there were 13/21 people voted for this book.  We like this book because the text moves around with  the pictures .  Also the illustrations made us giggle  and  some of the sentences made us laugh .  For an example the Barapasaurus was a good grinder for nuts and for mashing potatoes .The illustrations looked 3D  and a bit real and cartoony also has lots of ideas and details popped into the book and altogether it has lots of details.  The lesson of this book was working together as a family and helping neighborly friends.

It was not a close vote  If you Happen To Have A Dinosaur won 13/21 because it was funnier than A Splash Of Red. It was also a winner because they showed you the chores that some dinosaurs are good at and then they showed some chores that some dinosaurs are bad at.The text was in weird places like when they showed a dinosaur  being an umbrella for the kids going to school and the words were under the dinosaur out of the rain which was really cool. I liked the part when the dinosaur was a bad baby sitter and gave him a wedgie. This book teaches us that no matter if your a pet or a person you should always work together as a family.

 The Dinosaur book was full of humor that made the class laugh.  The page that we liked was the one where The dinosaur was opening the can with his horn. The pictures  looked cartoony,   The book was narrative and the other book is
 expository.  The text was all written differently and the illustrations  were very different,they did not look like normal pictures and writing.  The lesson they learned was dinosaurs sometimes come in need and sometimes not.

Opinion:

4/4 of my tribe likes the book. The book is very silly,weird and funny.The book has really random words like: beep boop, boo boo butt, badoooongy face and oooooomph!eeeeeemph!

Summary

There are different settings in the book for example big forest and a water castle.

The main character is a girl that had a journey to different places.On the journey she discovers a huge green peaceful forest with lanterns, lights and fireflies.When she was walking she saw a bridge so she walked to the bridge and drew a boat with a magical crayon on the water.After what she saw with her eyes she could see a big water castle and when she went inside all the people were saying hi and was bursting with joy.A few moments later she reached to a waterfall part  but before she fell in the water she drawed a hot air balloon.

Summary:The story we read was Blue Bird.Blue Bird is a wordless book.The settings are the school,the city,the market,pond and the woods.The main characters are,the boy,and the blue bird.The boy is a very lonely person he does not talk to anyone and is very shy.Most boys at school hurt his feelings very much.One day the boy found a blue bird following him around. The bird followed him all day around.The boy came from school and the bird followed him around again.The boy started feeling attached with the bird and started grinning.The one day they were walking through the woods and some boys started bullying them.One boy got stick to hit the lonely boy and the bird got hit while defending the boy.

Opinion: We all(4/4) liked the book because it teaches us about

negative and positive actions in health and was heart-breaking.we all also liked the book because it was a book about kindness where a bird stands up for a boy.I wonder about where all the birds come from even the blue bird?I wonder if the boy is homeless or not?We still wonder about why did the bird follow the lonely boy instead of the other boys?I wonder what the boys name is?

Summary

This story takes place in a underwater sea. The main character is the fish who steals the hat from the big fish.He stole the hat when the big fish was asleep.The little fish says that the big fish won't wake up for a long time but he does wake up. Even if he does wake up he probably won't notice that his hat is gone.The little fish was entering the long see weed plants and the big fish comes and the crab points the way with his claw so that the big fish can get his hat back.The big fish went in to get his hat back and he got his hat back.

Opinion

3/3 liked the book called this is not my hat by Jon Klassen. Carter wonders why the little fish doesn't care that he stole the hat that belonged to the big fish. Lovleen wonders how the big fish got his hat back. Mehtaab likes how little fish says that the big fish won't wake up for a long time after he stole the hat and the big fish wakes up and the little fish doesn't care. Carter likes how the big fish goes to find his hat when he noticed that his hat was gone after the little fish stole his hat. Lovleen likes how the crab shows the way where the little fish went in the long plants that grow big and tall and close together.

Summary   

In this story it looks like they were trying to show a picture of a library in the grandfathers house. The main character in the story is the grandfather as a boy because he tells his granddaughter about his past and by showing her his diary which is a bunch of match boxes with items from his past in them. When he was a boy he was very poor and he lived Italy and when ever he was hungry he told his mom to give him an olive pit to suck on because their was a lot of olive trees their. They went on a boat but they couldn't go on the top because they were poor unlike the rich people on top. Since they had almost no money their father had to leave for work to get money so they didn't get to see him often. When her grandfather was eight years old they finally had enough money to go to school but he didn't want to go so he had an argument  with his mom about whether or not he should go but his mom won and he ended up going to school it was hard for him but he did it and every night he told his sisters what he had learned.

I like the part when the grandfather showed her the matchbox diary and the girl said to the grandfather "you smoke cigars!"I wonder why the men told the passengers that people at their destination  put button hooks in their eyes (a button hook is a tool used for closing up shoes when they didn't have laces)

I like the book because it tells stories  and gives us information  from the grandfathers past.

I liked the part when they went to a baseball game in New York.
