SMACKDOWN FINAL
MRS. HOLDEN’S CLASS 4.2
December 4, 2014
The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak
VS.
And Two Boys Booed by Judith Viorst
VS.
At The Same Moment Around The World by Clotilde Perrin
By an overwhelming majority of 19/24 votes, The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak wins the Mini Mighty Smackdown in Mrs. Holden’s class.
Some of the reasons we feel this book deserves to win are:
-We really enjoyed all the silly words that were in the book, like ‘BOO BOO BUTT’ and “I am a ROBOT MONKEY” and ‘Ba-DOOONGY FACE!!!’.
-The book makes the reader say things they don’t want to say.
-It encourages the reader to read with lots of expression.
-This book is different from any other picture book we’ve read. Part of the reason for this is because it is a picture book with NO PICTURES!
-The front cover of the book makes it seem like it will be boring, but then it is surprisingly funny.
-It is cool how the book and the reader are arguing all the way through.
-We like the rule, “Everything the words say, the person reading the book has to say.”
-We didn’t want to stop reading because we couldn’t wait to see what the reader would have to read next.
-It is funny how at the end, it says, “Next time, please please please please please choose a book with pictures.”
-We thought it was really funny when Mrs. Holden had to say funny random words.
-Mrs. Holden read all the silly words in a funny way, and it made us laugh.
We would recommend this book to others because it is such a different and creative book. We think it is great for kids ages 4-10 - and lots of immature adults will probably find it really funny too. :)
Grade 4.2 gives this book 10/10.
