Summary: Finding Winnie; The True Story Of The World's Most Famous Bear by Lindsay Mattick
This story is about a veterinarian, Harry, who was a soldier in World War 1 and his job was to care for the horses. He was on the train headed to White River but got off the train to stretch his legs. He spotted a man with a bear cub with a collar around its neck. He felt bad for the cub so he offered the man $20 for the bear and that was the start of a new friendship. He named the bear Winnipeg, Winnie for short. The bear was actually welcomed into the army. She worked as a tracker (sniffing out things) and was a very good navigator. Sadly she isn't able to stay with Harry for all that long. All the stories you've seen/heard about Winnie the Pooh are based on this bear.
Nerdy Birdy by Aaron Reynolds
There was a bird and he was always interested in reading, playing video games, and reading about video games. He always tries to hang out with the cool birds but he doesn't fit in. One day another nerdy birdy invites him to hang out with their nerdy group. One day a new bird comes to live in the neighbourhood but she doesn't fit in with the cool birds. When Nerdy Birdy tries to invite her to join the nerdy group they don't allow her because she is different (she doesn't have glasses and doesn't fit in). This book teaches something about being yourself and not worrying about fitting into a group.
